Wars

There's a lot of theory and practice in the correct way to fight a war.

In the interests of time and practicality, I'll concentrate on how [FTW] would fight it's next war, assuming it finds itself in one.

There's a particular way to fight a war when you are a little guy, and you will be on-line for much of the war.

First off, war will be declared, either by your leaders, or buy the other fleet's leaders. You will have 24 hours notice.

In that time, fleets will often, through attacking and spying, determine the strenght of all of the members in the opposing fleet. Once this is done, you should determine who you can beat in the opposing fleet.

If there's nobody you can beat, you may choose to folow follow strategy (a).

If there are some people you can beat, you may choose to follow strategy (b).

If there are a bunch of people you can beat, you may choose to follow strategy (c).

Obviously, if you can beat most or all of the opposing fleet, your gameplan is rather different - and I won't get into it here.

Strategy (a): Hiding

Hiding will cost some points, but it's fairly simple.

Before the war starts, find an inactive player who can easily beat you, and park at that station.

Every time you are about to come out of the shipyard normally, pay a point, get out early, and directly attack the inactive pirate.

You will spend some points in the process, but the opposing fleet will never kill you, and you will be making a real contribution to your big players winning the war.

Strategy (b) Sniping

Sniping is similar to Hiding, but you find both an off-line pirate in the opposing fleet that you can kill, and an inactive pirate who can kill you.

When you pay a point to get out of the yard quickly, you kill the opposing pirate (if they are not in the shipyard or immune), and then splat.

Each time you kill the other pirate, you will get points for your team, and if you don't get killed, you will help win the war.

Strategy (c): Repeat Sniping

Repeat Sniping is the next step up. When you pay to get out of the yard, you kill 2-3 pirates who you can, then splat. You have to be careful that you don't get killed, but if you can kill 2 pirates for each time you get killed, you will be doing your part.

Notes:

Instead of an inactive pirate, you may try to splat on an pirate paying for splats. This is a good strategy, but there are two potential problems. If you are using a cloak (always recommended during wars), you may be ineligible for splay payouts. Also, the pirate paying out splats may move from station to station - you may get killed looking for them.

Always remember to use the Hacked AI boost - it is 2 points well spent, and will give you a big boost over off-line pirates.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
