30+ PSA: Bombing Gilmore
This combat recap is the most enjoyable ones that I have ever done.
Let's just say that fighting Gilmore on even terms is something that only a handful of pirates can do - unless you have bombs.
Gilmore was the defender, so no surprise bonus.
The malfunction rate of 33% on the Small Bombs tells me that Tim has his Expert Technician, an essential companion for bombing runs. The +1 minimum damage will also play a big role in this battle.
The +1 minimum damage begins to have a big impact.
I didn't realize this - when a bomb damages the attacker, the bomb can do less than the 5% minimum damage that a Small Bomb normally does.
Without an Expert Technician, the bombs would be doing zero damage at this point. The +1 minimum damage is the reason that Gilmore is now dead. He just doesn't realize it yet.
I also didn't realize this - once you have bombed somebody to death, it appears that you don't take damage from your own bombs any more. Personally, I don't like this rule (if indeed it is a rule) - in reality, if you overbomb somebody too badly, you will be damaged by the shrapnel. It's also very amusing from a gaming perspective.

This is meaningless in this battle, but it's worth noting that even if Gilmore had survived, Tim could have won. A +72% malfunction rate is huge - if Tim had gear that gave +28% enemy malfunction (and Gilmore didn't have native negative malfunction), Tim would have won the battle via combat.

For those interested that took 80 small bombs. It looks like I could have shaved it down closer to 70, but better a few too many than one too few when hitting someone orders or magnitude bigger than yourself.
